I am Vicky. Creator of Enchanted Locks. I've been on my own personal dreadlock journey for the last five years. I am dedicated to providing exceptional dreadlock maintenance and extensions using the crochet method only.  I never use machines. I am Glastonbury based and offer a mobile service to Glastonbury and the surrounding areas, so you can have your dreads done in the comfort of your own home. I understand how personal a dreadlock journey is. I understand people have them for a wide range of reasons. My goal is to create stunning locks while respecting your own personal journey with them whether that journey is sacred or aesthetic.

FAQ's:

How long does my natural hair need to be to install dreadlocks?

You can start with as little as 2 inches, but for extra security and stability, I'd start with at least 4-6 inches.

How long will my dreadlock installation take?

It really depends on how many dreadlocks you want and the length and thickness of your hair.  But it'll be between 2 -6 hours for partial dreadlocks or dreadlock installation on shorter hair. Full heads and long hair can take longer.

How should I care for my dreadlocks once they're installed?

I always recommend a satin bonnet to sleep in. If your dreadlocks are long, you can purchase an extra long satin bonnet from Etsy like this one.

You'll find lots of different advice on how often you should wash your dreadlocks.  When you've first had them installed, I recommend not washing for two months. After which, you can wash them once a month. Or once every two months. Washing will move your hair around and too frequent washing can loosen them all too much.

You will also need to use a sulfate free shampoo.  Never use conditioner, oils or wax on your dreads.  I really like Faith In Nature which can be found in good health food stores including Earthfare in Glastonbury.

How often will my dreadlocks need maintenance?

I like to get mine maintained roughly every three months. As your dreadlocks mature, you can have maintenance less often.

Please tell me more about dreadlock extensions:

Installing dreadlocks will shrink the length of your hair by an inch or two.  A lot of people have extensions fitted and grow their natural dreadlocks from there. You can have human hair or synthetic. Both of which look very natural. The real difference is the price.  Synthetic hair is more affordable.  Good quality human hair costs a lot more.
